updates - april 2011

As Katrina and I work together in this area of the world to reach people for our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, I am reminded of what missions is not. It is not something that originated in the brain or the heart of man. Its source was in the heart of God Himself. “For God so loved the world.” As we get weary in our labour for Him, and discouraging times can out number the encouraging ones, we keep our hand on the plough and look forward to what He is going to do in us and through us. I suppose the key is to not get in His way.
In our last newsletter, I mentioned that we were praying about coming back this fall for a short furlough. Several Pastors contacted me asking us to come, and give a report. After praying it through and speaking with my Pastor, we have made the decision to not come back for furlough this year. The costs involved are too high as we would still have the expenses of our rent etc... here in Scotland. We are also considering the Turriff Baptist Church, as it would be difficult to leave it for an extended period of time. With that being said, we are finding it difficult to keep up with our monthly obligations, as are you. We have tightened our belts and are doing our best in the financial climate we all find ourselves in. Our intent was to raise an additional $500.00 per month if we returned for furlough. We have two financial prayer requests.

1. That churches could prayerfully consider an increase in our monthly support by $10.00 or $20.00 dollars.
2. It seems that every month we have to repair something on our car. It is 13 years old with a lot of miles. $4000-$5000 would allow us to purchase a vehicle that would give us several years of service without the monthly repairs. (Lord willing)

Pastor Stone, whose information is below, will be happy to answer any questions you may have concerning our requests. (519-637-3434), Canadabbc.org

Katrina and I were honoured this past Saturday to renew the vows of an elderly couple in our church. They celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary. What a great testimony of a loving Christian life together.

Please pray for a meeting we are having next week. A team is coming from New York with their Pastor, Shawn Foster; he will be preaching a series of messages specific to the home. Topics will include:
1. How to build a home, not just a house.
2. How to rescue a failing marriage.
3. How to keep your marriage healthy.

Please pray that as we invite people to come, they will find salvation in Jesus Christ; and in Him, strengthen their marriages, and lives.
Thank you for praying for our family and ministry. We are blessed to be “labourers together with God.” 1 Cor 3:9

Your servants in Scotland,

Michael & Katrina Reid

3. Pray for Brother Jeff Smith and family. Jeff is a missionary here in Scotland and former Pastor of the Turriff Baptist Church. Jeff previously had a brain tumor successfully removed in 2001. Unfortunately, two tumors have developed and he underwent surgery today, 26 January. As I write this letter, an email has come in stating that he has come through the surgery and the Doctor removed one tumor and are considering options for the second. Please lift this family to the throne of grace.

4. Pray for the continued physical and spiritual growth of Turriff Baptist Church, as well as better facilities for the church to meet in.

5. Pray that we will have an impact with some of the parents whose children have been attending.

6. Pray for our children, Savanna and Damaris, who will are attending West Coast Baptist College. Pray for Katrina to be a witness here in Scotland, and that God will use her mightily.

7. Please pray for a meeting we are having next week. A team is coming from New York with their Pastor, Shawn Foster; he will be preaching a series of messages specific to the home.
